The Henner Group mobilises brokers in support of medical research

For the 2018 Brokers Days, the Henner Group has extended its support for Institut Imagine, a research institute focusing on genetic diseases affecting children. On the agenda this year – spin the wheel to raise as much money as possible.

Roue Imagine-Henner - VisualisationMaking hearts spin

Solidarity with researchers and children with genetic diseases remains a priority for Henner for the 2018 Brokers Days. The yearly meeting for insurance brokers will be held this year on 12-13 September at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.

As in the past two years, Henner will mobilise brokers at its stand by organising a fun and supportive activity. This year, brokers will spin a wheel to make donations and raise money for research.
In just two years, the Henner Group has raised €30,000

Over the past two years, the Henner Group has helped to raise awareness among the insurance industry about the fight against genetic diseases and support medical research.

In 2016, employees and partners (including brokers and insurers) of the Henner Group were encouraged to walk as much as possible in order to clock up 1 million steps within 48 hours, and make a €20,000 donation to Institut Imagine.

Last year, the brokers tested their strength by hitting a high striker as hard as possible with a mallet (like at a funfair). Thanks to their efforts, the Henner Group raised €10,000.

The Henner Group has supported Institut Imagine financially since 2014.

Explainer: Preparing for your retirement

It is important to prepare for retirement while you are still actively employed. It isn’t always easy to work out the best time to leave? The Henner Group will guide you through the process with the help of a case study involving Paul, a 62-year-old employee.

The Henner Group’s retirement solutions

The Henner Group’s Retirement & Employee Savings department serves companies who are seeking retirement solutions for their employees in France or abroad. The Henner Group also designs solutions for expatriates and provides end-of-career support.

Henner’s advice:

It is important to obtain regular pension statements from the age of 40 to prepare for your retirement. In France, you can obtain these documents from the retirement pension website www.canv.fr. The statement tells you how much pension you are currently eligible for. In particular, the statement lists:

  • Your yearly wages subject to retirement tax
  • The number of quarters acquired for the full pension
  • Any periods of unemployment or illness

Everything is taken into account, from work leave to unemployment, etc.

Our tip: All employees should take the time to check that all their periods of work have been taken into consideration, including student work, military service, temporary positions, unemployment and inactivity, etc.

For workers who have had international careers, this can prove more complicated. At Henner, we can piece together your entire international career for you. In some cases, this can take anywhere from a few months to two years to complete.

What about long careers?

In the French pension system, a “long career” can be defined as follows: At the end of the year you turn 20, you must have accumulated 5 quarters towards your pension (or 4 quarters in the year you turn 20 if you were born in the fourth quarter of the year). In such cases, you can retire at the age of 60 if you have accumulated the full number of quarters required to qualify for the full pension.

Case study:

In 2019, Paul is turning 62 and has accumulated enough quarters to qualify for the full pension.

He is an employee and has had a fairly linear career.
At the end of his career, his yearly wage amounts to €60,000 gross (or €46,200 net with 23% of Social Security contributions)

Question: Is it better for Paul to retire in 2019 and pay withholding tax on his pension, or wait one more year and avoid the 10% penalty on his pension points for 3 years?

PENSION CALCULATION

The first column is not an option for Paul who is retiring in 2019, but is included here for reference.
tmpCapture-20180620-161510
→ The penalty applied over 3 years: €29,044 – €27,743 = €1,301 x 3 = €3,903 loss

→ Withholding tax on a pension of €27,743 amounts to €2,122 i.e. 7.65% tax.

→ If he postpones his retirement from 2019 to 2020, Paul will be paid a wage of €46,200 in 2019.

→ Withholding tax on a pension of €46,200 amounts to €6,767 i.e. 14.65% tax, which amounts to difference of €4,645 (€6,767 – €2,122).

Conclusion:

By leaving with a penalty, Paul will benefit in the first year because the tax gain will absorb the penalty: tax gain of €4,645 – penalty of €3,903 = €742.
The 3-year penalty is absorbed within the first year by the tax gain. Obviously, that is only valid for 2019.
If he postpones his retirement, Paul will pay more income tax but will earn €1,194 more (€30,238 – €29,044) every year.

The Henner analysis

Retiring in 2019? Paul will benefit in the short term but will lose in the long term.
For long term gain, Paul would be better off working for an extra year.

The Henner Group mobilises brokers in support of medical research

For the 2017 Brokers Days, the Henner Group has extended its support for Institut Imagine, a research institute focusing on genetic diseases affecting children.

The challenge is to for brokers to hit as hard as they can to raise as much money as possible.

Will the brokers rise to the challenge?

Solidarity with researchers and children with genetic diseases remains a priority for Henner for the 2017 Brokers Days. The yearly meeting for insurance brokers will be held this year on 12-13 September at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.

As in 2016, Henner will mobilise brokers at its stand by organising a fun and supportive activity. This year, the brokers will test their strength by hitting a high striker as hard as possible with a mallet (like at a funfair). The total scores will be added together and converted into euros as a donation to Institut Imagine.

In 2016, the Henner Group raised €20,000

In 2016, employees and partners (including brokers and insurers) of the Henner Group were encouraged to walk as much as possible in order to clock up 1 million steps within 48 hours, and make a €20,000 donation to Institut Imagine. Ultimately their efforts paid off, and the objective was easily reached with 1,600,000 steps recorded. The collective effort helped to raise awareness among the insurance industry about the fight against genetic diseases and support medical research.

The Henner Group has supported Institut Imagine financially since 2014.

HENNER ENTREPRISE: NO MORE EXCUSES FOR SMEs

Since 1 Jan 2016, all private-sector companies in France are required to provide supplementary healthcare insurance to all employees. The Henner Group has come up with a dedicated offer for very small to medium-sized companies called Henner Entreprise.

The ideal solution …

As of 1 Jan 2016, all French companies, regardless of their size, are legally required to provide their employees with supplementary healthcare insurance.

The new law changes little for large companies, but for very small to medium-sized companies, it is a more substantial development. Managing a company is a big job, and leaders of small companies, who are often acting on their own, need support to fulfil their legal obligations.

This prompted Henner to develop a range of products for very small to medium-sized companies, and launched Henner Entreprise.

Henner Entreprise is a comprehensive service designed to meet the needs and suit the budget of very small to medium-sized companies and their employees, by providing support to the fulfil legal requirements and administrative procedures.

… tailored to the size and needs of the company

Henner Entreprise, which includes healthcare, life and disability insurance, can be tailored to the size of the company.

Healthcare insurance:

7 plans: 1 basic plan, 5 responsible-compliant plans and 1 non-compliant plan to provide greater cover.

The plan includes 3 semi-modular options for employees who wish to individually boost their cover based on their personal healthcare needs, while the employer or employee can provide cover for their dependents.

ADVANTAGES

  • A modular product for companies with more than 10 employees: 5 plans with a choice of 7 levels of cover
  • A linear range for companies with fewer than 10 employees: 7 levels of cover
  • A range of services (including a 24-hour medical teleconsultation service), access to the Carte Blanche healthcare network, social fund for benefits not subject to contributions

Life and disability:

Including a compulsory life insurance plan and a host of options: children’s education pension, spouse pension, funeral insurance.

ADVANTAGES

  • A modular product: only the basic life insurance component is compulsory
  • Double benefit in the event of accidental death
  • A product suitable for all professional categories: executives, non-management staff, all employees

Henner ENTREPRISE was presented to our partner brokers nationwide on 15 June at various local, targeted events.

Henner presents its range of plans for the self-employed

Committed to fulfilling the needs of the self-employed, the Henner Group has launched a new range of healthcare and life and disability products called Henner TNS.

Comprehensive and attractive

Aware of the difficulties encountered by the self-employed obtaining insurance plans, Henner has launched a complete, modular and competitive solution, which includes a healthcare and a life and disability plan.

  1. The healthcare plan: With five levels of responsibility-compliant benefits and one non-compliant option, the healthcare plan provides a comprehensive solution to meet the needs of all individuals. Self-employed workers also enjoy a range of services (the mobile app, assistance, etc.) and a network of recognised healthcare professionals (Carte Blanche), all at a competitive price.
  2. The life and disability plan protects policyholders against various life events by supplementing the often inadequate level of cover provided by compulsory schemes for the self-employed. With tax advantages, various options, a range of benefits and relatively few exclusions, the plans are designed to suit their very needs.

A Madelin-compliant range

Henner TNS is compliant with the Madelin law, designed to encourage self-employed workers to seek better insurance cover by deducting their premiums (for healthcare, life and disability, retirement and unemployment cover) from their taxable income or profits as per the conditions provided by the law.

Who are self-employed workers?

The self-employed are a large category of workers in France (2.8 million in 2015). They include new entrepreneurs, majority owner-managers of businesses, small business owners, artisans, and other self-employed professionals. They are different from conventional employees which is why they need a dedicated range of services. Unlike employees, they are obliged to pay for their own premiums for the insurance plans required by their profession. With little or no cover provided by their compulsory scheme, they need supplementary plans to ensure they have optimal insurance cover.
